Veterinarian rescues 260 dogs and cats from war in Ukraine

A heroic veterinarian from Poland has been crossing the border to Ukraine every day for two weeks to rescue stray four-legged friends. Jakub Kotowicz has already brought 200 cats and 60 dogs to safety, and new families are to be found for the animals in Europe.

A Polish veterinarian has been crossing the border with Ukraine every day for two weeks to rescue stray dogs and cats. The 32-year-old Jakub Kotowicz accompanies aid convoys traveling from Poland to Lviv, Ukraine.

Kotowicz was able to bring 200 cats and 60 dogs, among others, to safety. Rescued pets include a dog with a bullet in its spine, a pygmy goat with a leg injury and a traumatized Chihuahua puppy.

On his daily mission, Kotowicz is often out until three in the morning. He hasn’t slept in days. New families are to be found in Europe for the rescued animals.
