More than 351 civilians have already died in the Ukraine war, according to the UN. One of them is Anastasiia Yalanskaya, according to a report. The 26-year-old was delivering food to an animal shelter outside Kiev. The relief effort has now cost her her life.
Although Russian forces were moving ever closer to Kiev and her friends and family were fleeing the invasion, Ukrainian Anastasiia Yalanskaya stayed to continue helping in her home country. Now the 26-year-old is dead. During an aid mission, she and two other volunteers were shot dead.
Ukrainian dies while trying to deliver food to animal shelter
On Friday, Anastasiia was on her way with two volunteer colleagues to Bucha, a town 30 kilometers from Kiev, to deliver food to an animal shelter that had been without food for three days. On the way back from there, all three were shot. Anastasiia’s friends and family commented to “Global News”, claiming that Russian troops deliberately targeted the car from nearby. This could not be independently confirmed so far.
“I told her that she has to be extra careful in these times. Any smallest mistake can destroy so much these days,” said her husband Yevhen Yalanskyj. “She wanted to help everyone around. I asked her to think about evacuation, but she wouldn’t listen.”
