What started as an ordinary day for a group of fishermen turned into a day they will never forget.
It all started when they spotted a giant sperm whale stranded on a beach 740 yards offshore.
They knew they had to do something to save the 20-meter-long sperm whale and immediately asked the local fisheries department for help. The rescue operation, which took place in China’s Zhejiang province, began at 8 a.m. and lasted 20 hours.
Video footage shows rescuers dousing the sperm whale with buckets of water to keep it alive as it was in danger of dying from dehydration. Then, at high tide, several ships manage to pull the giant whale back into the sea. Hooray! What an impressive team effort!
