Dog fell into icy river and waited for help: family called the fire department

When winter begins, it’s important to remember the dangers. A golden retriever learned that lesson very well when he got stuck in a frozen river.

The Coast Guard was called after the dog’s owners reported that their dog had fallen into the icy water in Michigan. When rescuers arrived, the dog had managed to climb onto the ice, but was unable to make it to safety.

The rescuers quickly understood that they did not have the necessary equipment. They also did not want to put their own lives in danger, as the ice was too thin to support their weight.

So they called for backup. The Grand Rapids Fire Department arrived on the scene and worked with the Coast Guard. After several attempts, they finally found a solution.

They put a firefighter in a sled and used a rope system to pull him to the dog. Once the firefighter reached the dog, he was able to grab hold of it and slide down the ice to safety.

The entire rescue was captured on video and the video shows the happy dog reuniting with his owners with his tail wagging.
