This delicate Irrawaddy dolphin was on the verge of death in a tidal lagoon off the coast of Thailand; it couldn’t even swim, and everyone knew that saving the dolphin’s life would be challenging.
Everyone wanted to save the life of this beautiful creature, which is listed as endangered. There are only 400 Irrawaddy dolphins left on the eastern coast of Thailand, bordering Cambodia.
The dolphin, estimated to be 4 to 6 months old, was named Paradon, which means “fraternal burden.” But no one considered him a burden; they did everything they could to save him!
Given the dolphin’s slim chances of survival, it was placed in a saltwater pool, and the treatment continued. Volunteers were constantly sought to care for him and monitor his progress.
To prevent him from drowning, they had to lift him into the pool and initially feed him milk through a tube. Later, when he gained some muscle mass, they fed him with a bottle. During the day, volunteers and staff took care of the pumps, filters, and milk production for the baby dolphins.
Thippunya Thipjuntar, a 32-year-old financial advisor and one of the many volunteers, emphasizes that she can’t help but approach the cute and chubby Paradon, causing her lips to curl into a smile!

The staff and volunteers at the sanctuary not only give the dolphins a chance to live but also help raise awareness for the protection of these rare animals. It is hoped that the fishing practices, which inadvertently catch dolphins along with other species, will soon cease, providing these dolphins with a safer habitat!
The caregivers of Paradon are convinced that their lengthy and loving care is worthwhile.
