Ailing Dog Awaits Its Demise After Being Discarded in Trash at Landfill Due to Being Considered “Worthless”

ilovemydogsomuch shares the heart-wrenching story of Kratos, an eight-year-old Kangal German Shepherd discovered in a deserted garbage dump in Çorum, in an incredibly feeble state. The abandoned dog not only suffered from malnutrition and dehydration but also had extensive wounds covering his body, resulting in the loss of all his fur.

Volunteers from the organization “Rescuers Within Our Borders” stumbled upon Kratos on a frigid day, stuck in a muddy pit within a hazardous garbage dump. They were devastated by the sight of this helpless creature, who evidently believed he had a loving family before ending up in this dump. Regrettably, stories like Kratos’ are not uncommon in Turkey. Over the past few months alone, animal welfare workers have rescued over 800 dogs abandoned in various garbage dumps. Sadly, many of these dogs succumbed to their fate before receiving assistance. Rescuers suspect that owners frequently discard their dogs when they become old, sick, or are no longer useful for certain tasks.

The rescue organization has tirelessly rehabilitated numerous “junkyard dogs” to date. Despite their unfortunate circumstances, these dogs still possess a friendly demeanor and a strong desire to please humans. However, the endeavor to help dogs in landfills has been hindered due to the substantial cost involved, ranging between $800 and $2,000 to rescue each dog.

The staff reports that Kratos is slowly recovering from a compromised immune system, and they anticipate him regaining full strength within approximately two months. His fur has begun to grow back, and once fully recuperated, he will be ready to embark on a new chapter in his life with a loving family.

Wishing you a speedy recovery, dear Kratos!
