An animal hero emerges when one saves an animal’s life in a life or death situation. Don Chatten, a dog walker in Buffalo, New York, is a prime example of this. On a cold day, Don was approached by a woman who needed help finding her small dog. Don consented to help the woman, but upon locating the lost dog, he became aware of the perilous situation it was in and recognized the need for immediate action.
The dog had plunged into the frigid waters of Ellicott Creek Park, and Don was aware of the urgency to act swiftly.
Despite calling 911, Don feared they wouldn’t arrive in time to save the dog, so he took matters into his own hands. He attempted to crawl across the ice, but it broke, causing him to plunge waist-deep into the frigid waters.
Don explained to WKBW News that he knew the water wasn’t deep in that area because he used to visit the park as a child. After rescuing the shivering dog, it was taken to the veterinarian for a check-up.
Don’s bravery and compassion for animals are truly heroic, and his actions deserve recognition. To pay tribute to Don and his heroic actions, please share this post.
