Couple Saves Unwanted Senior Dogs from Animal Shelters

When Chris and Mariesa founded the Mr. Mo Project, they never could have predicted its overwhelming success. Originally, their aim was to provide care packages for senior dogs at their local animal shelter. But as their efforts gained momentum, they found themselves taking in dogs themselves, and their network of rescuers quickly expanded to include areas as far-flung as New York, Canada, and California.

Their mission is simple yet daunting: to rescue as many senior dogs as possible and ensure that none are left behind. Over the past six years, they have saved the lives of more than 500 dogs – an impressive achievement, given that many of these animals were destined for euthanasia before Chris and Mariesa intervened.

A lovable dog named Moses who had overstayed his welcome at a nearby shelter served as the inspiration for the project. After just four weeks of caring for Moses before he passed away, Chris and Mariesa began to contemplate the plight of other aging dogs who had undoubtedly faced similar challenges.

Today, the Mr. Mo Project continues to make a profound difference in the lives of senior dogs, providing them with love, care, and a second chance at happiness. Chris and Mariesa’s tireless efforts are a testament to the power of compassion and the difference that one person – or in this case, two – can make in the world.

At the heart of the Mr. Mo initiative lies a simple yet powerful motto: “the best for the rest.” This means that the project strives to provide senior dogs with the very best experience for the rest of their lives, and it is a truly inspiring mission.

To achieve this goal, the couple behind the project regularly appeals for donations from kind-hearted supporters to cover the cost of expensive procedures for the dogs in their care. However, on occasion they fall short of their fundraising targets and end up footing the bill themselves. They joke that if it isn’t nailed down in their home, they would sell it!

Nevertheless, this glimpse into the couple’s selfless character only serves to underscore their unwavering commitment to ensuring that senior dogs can enjoy a peaceful and comfortable retirement.

As Mariesa aptly puts it, “We are incredibly fortunate to be able to do this because it is our passion and a tremendously enjoyable activity.” Her words perfectly encapsulate the driving force behind the Mr. Mo initiative: a deep and abiding love for senior dogs and a desire to give them the best possible life in their golden years.
