Finding strange marks around the house is never a pleasant experience. Anytime something suddenly appears on a wall, countertop, or floor, most of us immediately worry about what caused it — and whether it’s a sign of a bigger (and more expensive) problem waiting to happen.
That’s exactly how one homeowner felt after discovering a series of unexplained black dots showing up in her kitchen. And when it comes to the kitchen — the heart of food preparation — unexpected stains naturally raise concern. It’s the one room where you want everything to be clean, predictable, and under control.
Completely confused, the woman turned to Facebook for answers. Fortunately, other users quickly solved the mystery… though the explanation wasn’t exactly comforting.
“Look above the spot — you’ll probably find a spider,” one commenter replied.
Another added, “It happens a lot this time of year. Spiders leave little droppings everywhere.”
According to Pest Guidance, spiders don’t produce solid waste. Instead, their droppings are thick, liquid-like spots that resemble dark ink stains. They typically appear on walls, floors, and other smooth surfaces.

The website explains:
“Spider droppings look like splats or drips in shades of black, brown, white, or grey. The color can vary depending on the species, but most appear as dark, irregular dots. These marks are made up of digested food mixed with other waste materials.”
Many people have no idea what spider droppings look like — and it’s not something most of us think about until we see it firsthand. Have you ever noticed these marks in your home? Share your experience in the comments!
